Particular design for communities that are within developing, or poverty stuck areas.
For children and younger generations. I've come more awakened to an ideology that we need to provide and create better lives for the younger generation and equip them with everything they need to facilitate the mending that the world will need.
They need education on how to look after the world, and be awakened to to what the world needs.
In a time of uncertain future I want to design to follow the progressive design movement for Design Activism.
I’ve found inspiration in all of the TEN strategies. There is a lot to cover on Sustainable Design, I’ve been following many other blogs that cover sustainable methods. What I’ve particularly found interesting is the use of unconventional building materials and methods. There is a group I’ve joined called Sustainable living, as well as sometimes discussing materials and building techniques they’re also teaching me how to lead a more sustainable life.
Its made me cautious and considerate for what materials i’m designing and planning with. I’ve particularly taken note and kept this in the forefront of my mind in my Design Research Studio project. I had been craving to be on the Design Research, Sustainable studio, but was unlucky within my selection. Originally uninspired with my assignment after research and blogging I’ve found way to incorporate my passions in anything I do. I’m now considering designing a space that protects you from Electromagnetic Frequencies using large crystals, I’ll post my project after completion.
Not only has it massively encouraged a skewed thought process on what I originally possessed, but it’s taught me how to live and how else I want to change my life into a sustainable one. Many things to start with were hard, like looking to see what chemicals I'm using and how I'm disposing of them has been my biggest challenge. I’ve been cautious in buying, realising my desire for the material things is only something embedded in my mind by advertising and by a natural part of human nature where we are envious of people who have more. Its been a long journey, and very tough one. But my consideration and awakening has truly benefited my life and encourages me to keep striving until its second nature.
Its changed my mind in terms of living in the future. I use to think I’d save up £20,000 and more to buy my first house on a mortgage. But, I don't want to live like that now, now instead, thanks to Stark and Rico I want to consider alternative versions of owning my own home. I’ve introduced friends who, also like me are saving to build their lives with the start of the their own home. This is inspirational, no more leasehold properties, where in fact you don't own any of the land which your property is on, effectively paying for bricks and mortar. When its explained that you may be loaning more than £200,000 for your home, and you don’t anything apart from this container of bricks and mortar, you can see a spark of thought. I’ve worked out that, yes I may be saving another 5 years, but I’m going to own my land and everything on it, nobody to pay off, no debts in my name, well excluding this student loan I’ll be paying off.
Thats only the start of it though, Its easy now to “live of the fat of land”, an idea I share with Lennie and George, and to sustain yourself and live a fruitful life. With all the renewable energy resources we have, rain water harvesting, such a vast range of technology we can equip ourselves with to be fully sustainable.
I can tell this is going to be an ongoing learning experience, I’ve been dreaming so regularly about living off the land within a Smart City, its bizarre, but sits well in my mind. I want to explore and create first and foremost within my life and living and smart implementing that within design. I’m currently looking into the study of communities, at the moment I feel that sustainable life is defined and associated by the singular, we’re starting to see the community considered more, whether it be small scale or large scale.
